.

Google+ is hot. We have been blogging about it a ton since its launch. This infant of a social network hit a major milestone today, passing the 20 million users mark. Below is an infographic showing the top 10 countries for Google+ users, courtesy of the Wall Street Journal.

Yes, Google has huge reach and an existing user base, but the rapid adoption of Google+ is still impressive. It seems that Google is making a major push in the social networking space. All Things D is reporting that Google will soon launch and Games on Google+ to directly compete with Facebook. Google is said to plan to take a lower cut of gaming revenues than Facebook does, which could be a major blow to the social networking giant.

Marketing Takeaway

Google+ is growing faster than expected. As a marketer, it is important that you sign up for the free service and understand the mechanics of how information is shared. I really believe that Google+ has a lot of staying power. I think it will be very important for business to start to familiarize themselves with this new social media outlet!

It just goes to show the fragility of our current social networking tools. Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall. As marketers we need to be nimble enough (and courageous enough) to handle such tidal shifts. I believe our fundamental need to communicate with one another will never change – but the delivery mechanism will. Tag; Google+, you’re it.

I know the numbers are really high for G+ sign up but i just don't see anyone I know (outside of social media circles) using it. And if they don't, it doesnt matter how cool the technology is... there will be no network to market to.

google+ is only at its beta phase... people will only acknowledge it, once it is at known commercially, when people here about beta phase, its just like hearing for product testing....

@bert, as with Gmail, Google will likely call it a beta even were it to have a billion users.

A very unfamiliar phenomenon is the social media and the particulars required to make it success.

Sounds like Google + is really taking off. I would be curious to know what demographics are really latching onto it. Also are these people actually using it or just signing up for later use?

How do you actually get invited to it? I would like to be, but don't see an easy way to sign up. email is luke2226@gmail.com

thanks

I like the simplicity and user interface of Google +. Hopefully additional tools will be added for users to promote their work.
