Organizations that try to portray themselves as what they think people want instead of what they are don't win over our hearts and minds. In an age where everyone is connected, falsehoods are fleeting.
The world does not expect perfection. In fact, perfection is troublesome. When we see something that seems too perfect, there's a small part of us that knows something's not quite right. Don't hide your limitations and your flaws. Be genuine -- we like that sort of thing, and reward it.

Wow Dharmesh:
That was a short blog! Did you hit the optimize button. I am sure it would have said blog too short!
Anyway, I agree with you.
Be transparent.

I agree 100%. It's also important to remember that being leading a brand is not the same as being a brand. Here's a link to a great article about CEO Chip Conley, Facebook, Branding & Burning Man

Except if when genuine, you are unlikeable...then don the mask

.....perhaps, brevity is the 'new transparency'....? Either way, I'm totally in agreement and found your post refreshingly to the point....Fondest regards

Remember KISS? David Bowie? Batman? To a performer and presenter, masks are a natural extension of the artiste's persona, and invaluable tools in the creation of mystery, intrigue and diversity. If you have no use for these, then discard them, but remember, there is more to the world than meets the eye.

We started our band with this philosophy in mind. Just be real. Just be you. Express emotion with honesty. If it's not good enough for the masses, that's okay. It'll be good for our souls to create music from the heart...ironically, and perhaps not surprisingly, our band has been better received by audiences than any other project I've ever been a part of. Like you said, our being genuine is being rewarded.

We always urge our our clients to be as transparent. Dealing with several bank clients, however, we run into compliance officers that want to include two page disclosures.

Authenticity always sells. Anywhere. Anytime. Any place.

I believe we are talking about a couple different things here. "Brands" can and should be authentic, I would agree, and I also think brands express authenticity in a fundamentally different way than do people. An authentic brand can tell—and play a starring role in—fictional stories that are authentic if they resonate with a societal vibe. Individual transparency is a different sort of authenticity. There's more to it, but I thought this point worthy.

May be true except whe the brand is a person
