Here is a video interview with Betsy Davison from artid, who speaks about her experience marketing her small business over the past 8 years and what types of inbound and outbound marketing she has used.

Here are some quotes from Betsy:

"The traditional way of doing marketing that we were using back in 1999 and 2000 were things like tradeshows, art shows and festivals, full page ads in trade magazines, email blasts - we used to buy email lists at huge expense... you'd also buy trade magazine lists [for direct mail].  A great deal of our early startup money went to this outbound marketing."

"One of the best decisions I made for the company was to say STOP.  We need to back way off on the print ads, the media, the traditional [outbound] marketing strategies.  Because we started to see, even in the art industry the diminishing returns..."

"Someone sent me a link to your blog.  And I was hooked.  I was sort of a stalker..."

And some less insightful quotes from me:

"To everyone out there who is a HubSpot blog stalker, its ok.  The blog is free.  We don't mind."

"To all the blog stalkers out there, someday you too can be on the HubSpot blog!"

Absolutely right on advice. Higher response rate, lower cost, higher conversion rate - why would someone do anything else to grow their business?

Yeah - I'm like the crazy guy who is madly in love with HubSpot - just won't come right out and say it. I got turned on to WebsiteGrader when it rolled out. I use it frequently when preparing preliminary SEO reports for customers. I usually get at least one or two great tips off the blog every week, sometimes more. The best part is that I agree with her perspective and HubSpots about inbound marketing. As a web developer I used to consider myself as a type of advertising medium, as an additional piece to a companies marketing. Now I present myself as the medium for companies to start their own inbound marketing strategy. Some of them start off large enough to become HubSpot customers, others need to grow into that position, but all in all, they all grow at great rates once they make the shift into inbound marketing.

Thanks for the video post. There is a lot of talk about inbound marketing these days, can someone please provide with a good resource on what inbound marketing actually is? Is there a list that says what qualifies as inbound and what is concidered outbound? For example, if you add your website to a ton of directories, is that in or outbound? Thanks
