Recently we headed out to Austin, TX for SEM for SMB, an event focused on how small businesses can leverage the Internet to grow their business with techniques such as search engine optimization and search engine marketing. HubSpot's own VP Marketing, Mike Volpe, started off the second day with a presentation on how to craft an Inbound Marketing strategy that combines SEO with blogging and social media for the greatest marketing results. Below is the video (40 minutes) and the slides can be downloaded from SlideShare.net/HubSpot.

Key points:

  • If you can combine SEO, blogging, and social media, you will achieve exponential results as each of these efforts work together
  • The key determinants of success for inbound marketing are (1) content, (2) inbound links, and (3) fans/friends/subscribers
  • The primary components of your inbound marketing strategy are (1) publishing content, (2) monitoring what people are saying about you, and (3) promoting flattering content

How have you been able to combine your SEO, blogging, and social media efforts? What kind of results have you seen? Do you have any tips to share about implementing an effective inbound marketing strategy? Leave a comment below.

I haven't had the time to view the video yet but I did look through the slides think you provided a great inbound marketing strategy. The best part of the action steps you provide is that they're completely free besides the investment of time.

If you wanted to invest a little money into this strategy, I'd also recommend adding internet-based PR. This will help to increase SEO and can be posted on social media sites and blogs. Typically they would also include links to your blog and/or website which would only further push your website/blog out to the masses.

I definitely will be referencing this post in an upcoming post on my blog. Great work!

Businesses should put these marketing tactics together with a marketing blueprint that way they can better see how each of these marketing ideas can work together to increase business.

Very nice article Ellie. It will be interesting to see what the future brings for SMM. At some point there will inevitably be a consolidation of the generic Social Media websites as industry favorites emerge, which may give way to a horde of more focussed SM networks, making it even better for the marketer? who knows?!

Thanks for the video. I've known that these 3 elements are each important, but this presentation helped tie them all together. The only thing I think is worth adding is consistency. Nothing worse than coming up with a great strategy, implement it for a couple weeks, and then quit. Marketing your website has to be a lifestyle.
