Visual Step-by-Step Instructions to Connect Your Twitter and LinkedIn Accounts

.

LinkedIn rolled out a cool new feature that links your Twitter account to your LinkedIn profile via your status update. What's incredibly unique about this feature is the ability to update your status from Twitter, as well as send out Tweets via LinkedIn.

This is a great way to frequently update a typically-static LinkedIn profile. Think about it! How many of us set up a profile and don't touch it for months and months?

Follow the below steps to connect your LinkedIn Profile and Twitter Account and start using this neat new tool!

Step 1: Visit LinkedIn.com and Click the Blue Twitter Button

Linkedin Twitter Linking

Step 2: Allow LinkedIn to Connect to Your Twitter Account

Step 3: Make your Twitter account visible to everyone and decide if you would like some or all your Tweets sent to LinkedIn.

LinkedIn Twitter

If you would only like a select few Tweets to be sent to your Linkedin, chose "Only Tweets that contain #in". Now, only if you use the #inhashtag in your Tweet, it will go to LinkedIn.

Step 4: Send a test tweet with hashtag #in.

Step 5: Check your LinkedIn profile to see if your status is your most recent Tweet.

LinkedIn Status Update

By sending tweets to your LinkedIn status, your profile is more dynamic and you can frequently update your network about what you're doing.

Step 6:
Select the checkbox on LinkedIn.com to allow your LinkedIn Status to update your Twitter Account.

Send Linkedin To Twitter

Now, whenever you update your LinkedIn Status, it will also update your Twitter Account.

What do you think? Will you link your accounts? Will you send all your Tweets to LinkedIn or only a few? Why?

I think it is awesome that we can now update LinkedIn status from Twitter especially the selective tweets using the #in - I hope that people who tweet alot will do the selective tweets because otherwise Linkedin status updates are going to be overrun with @ relpies and other nonsense that doesn't fit in with LinkedIn ... I myself have set selective tweets and post once a day to LinkedIn.

In response to the above comments - I'm the social content manager for my company and as such I write a blog post about once or twice a week to support that effort. When I tweet about the blog (to help point people to our blogsite) I now add the #in to send the tweet to my LinkedIn page, which adds my blog post to my page, which in turn (IMO) enhances my LinkedIn profile.

This is a great new feature. Thanks for the post.

The potential for this is actually pretty massive. If you have a corporate Twitter account and are willing to share your twitter login credentials with your employees, then every single one of your employees on LinkedIn could be updated with your corporate Twitter updates. That reach could be quite significant. There is some risk involved however.

Anyone know any other ways to optimize this for a corporate account?

I agree with @Katie Feltin and @Cindi. If you're a prolific tweeter, be kind to your poor LinkedIn connections who aren't used to that many updates in a day's time. Use the #in hashtag option. It is useful for quickly posting an update about your blog to LinkedIn. We get a majority of our Web traffic from LinkedIn, so it's very important to us.

Zye, I think you're on to something with the corporate account, but that would be better suited to the Company Profile page on LinkedIn rather than masquerading as the twitter account for all of your employees. Perhaps it won't be long before we see an option to connect a twitter account to those Company Profile pages.

On another note... #in hashtag is a must. I started with all tweets and quickly switched that up so only business-related tweets get through at my discretion. Hasn't stopped some connections from dominating my homepage, however. Sigh.

I am so glad I happened to see Rebecca's linked in status today about this new function.

I am just coming out of a year and half of unemployment. Linked In profile are so important to market your skills etc. I have two twitter accounts, Personal (locked down to friends only) and one professional (open to everyone). I can see pushing some of my professional tweets to Linked In as a great way to start discussions in a new networks.

Thanks so much for sharing!

The ability to post your tweets onto LinkedIn is a nice feature for some, but wasn't the beauty of the most popular 3 social media platforms that they were all unique. First Facebook takes Twitter's feature of @mentions and then LinkedIn integrates Twitter updates. Instead of making them more similar they should be working to diversify. I think LinkedIn and Facebook got too worried, too soon with Twitter's success over the past year - even though Facebook has had more growth recently.

I do think this is a good idea - but its a question of remembering to use the #in tag when using Twitter.

The benefit of not all tweets going automatically to LI is that since it is primarily a business audience, you do want to focus what information is displayed against your profile.
