Activity on Facebook by Age [Infographic]

.

Using Facebook Grader data, I studied the how people of different ages differ in their use of Facebook.

I found a number of interesting patterns, for instance, while teens tend to have the most friends, Facebook users in their twenties tend to have more posts on their walls.

On the other hand, it appears that users in their 30s and above are leading the way when it comes to entering lengthy answers to the various Facebook profile fields like quotes, favorite TV shows and interests.

If you're interested in reaching out to a specific age group on Facebook, spend some time thinking about what those users are doing on Facebook and how you should interact with them.

If you want to learn more about Facebook behavior and data like this, be sure to register for the Science of Facebook webinar I'll be presenting on June 29th.

I've always been amazed at the number of Facebook friends some teenagers have. They'll friend anyone, join just about any group and most don't seem to care much about privacy. I was a bit surprised to see their lack of interest in TV.

Interact with them? It seems so cold. Facebook is supposed to be a place of happiness and integrity. If we fake the FB founding mission just so a specific age group is attracted to our products and services, that makes us two-faced-bookers®. Yea capitalism but not on Facebook. And I know many who agree. Oh well, I'm off to cajole thirty year old's to buy skin cream by pretending I like them. Watta' world.

Interesting seven dimensional graph you have there. I'm wondering where the saddle point would be.

What about the sub teens? we know they shouldn;t be on FB but we know they all are. Does their lying about their age to play games skew the figures? when they lie are they saying they are 18 or 48?

Wow - Activities and interest increase in the Fifties. Is anyone looking at that!?

Very interesting! I'd also be interested to see the relative numbers of FB users by these age brackets, as well as those over 50.

This makes sense that teens and twenties are more active with adding friends and posting. I bet these levels are similar with usage of texting by age. I think it speaks to overall adoption of SM by age. Older ppl who aren't used to communicating this way spend more time completing a profile as their way of participating.

Pretty sure that bump in activities and interest for the 50+ crowd is due to retiring and a renewed interest in doing leisurely activities. Once you're done working, it's time to do something fun, which you're more likely to talk about.

Agreed and they spend on their fun, too.

This means that when you are over 50 you have more interests and become more active! (atleast on facebook)
