This is an amazing amount of information. I'm a visual-spacial learner and yet this made my eyes cross.
I love the different ways the graphics present the information, but I feel I need at least a couple paragraphs description of what each means--then a summary of the different models.
Where did this information come from?
Great stuff--just too much for me.
John Sullivan 1:45 PM on August 18, 2010
Where I disagree is you list do follow blog commenting as slightly black hat and then Snitching Reporting Spam competitors as White HAT LOL you must be friends with Matt Cutts :)
Anyway nice info and graphics Thanks :)

I've never heard the terms white hat and black hat. What are they exactly?
Michael Schwartz 2:04 PM on August 18, 2010
Definitely some interesting stuff in here. I find the local search graphic particularly fascinating, but you missed one. We recently did an infographic that explains how many links it takes for your page to move up in PR and different kinds of ways to obtain links: http://www.verticalmeasures.com/linktoberfest-seo-infographic-for-link-data-visualization/

I thought I was good at creating meaningful visuals for our clients but these graphs and charts take the cake! I especially love the scatter plot of SEO tactics, this will help convince clients of the strength of keyword research and on page optimization instead of automated content generation and keyword stuffing. Thanks!
Carol Kollm 2:53 PM on August 18, 2010
Very nice! Glad to see that the data source for the analysis was included in most cases.

Great stuff Kipp.
I have to admit though, I was surprised to see DoFollow Blogs on the Blackhat SEO side of the chart.
It's to my understanding that this method is no longer penalized by Google. Although I see it's just over the borderline. So I gather it's probably not as negatively impactful as some of the other tactics you've mentioned.
Thanks for sharing!

The coolest thing about all these infographics is that, despite all the newfangled technology and jargon, SEO success continues to boil down to mastering the basics: Content people want to read and share, Clean site architecture and Keyword alignment.
Thanks for putting this together and sharing it!

Some powerful information here, having these kind of visual aids is great for presentations. I especially like the SEO ROI, one of the hardest to convey the investment value of to clients.
Alan - Marketing Attraction Coach 8:03 AM on August 20, 2010
There is A LOT of good information here. So much that, at first I almost didn't read through it, but once I did, there is a lot to learn.
I'm just not sure how much it would mean to someone who didn't already have a rough grasp of what they are looking at.
Scott P. Dailey 12:40 PM on August 20, 2010
This is getting boring really. And I don't mean the data. The data is sensational and the energy it creates among content marketers really revs me up. What's boring is how many people - in my own day-to-day - still thinks of SEO and other organic progressions (inbound marketing, et al) as smoke and mirrors or worse, a wealth of sexy fads. Remember in Annie Hall, Woody Allen says to Diane Keaton, "you know how a shark dies if it stops swimming? Well I think what we have here is a dead shark." That's what I see happening to social media and SEO neigh sayers more and more and I suppose that's cool. It's more food for you and I. Thanks HubSpot. Your blog never stops being valuable.

Please checkout Edward Tufte
http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte/
He is the master at data visualization.
You will quickly realize that most of the above (very good) information can be displayed in about 2% of the space.
Lot's of wasted space, less data density. The eye can see in much higher resolution than the graphics above, or any powerpoint for that matter...

I'm surprised to see yahoo and dmoz rank in the low effectiveness quadrants. Directory submission for those two services are usually on the list of the top 10 things you should do for a website.
