Blogging sure is getting a lot of media attention. A couple of weeks ago, the Boston Globe published an article on the use of blogging among venture capitalist firms.
The article exposed the debate on blogging among venture capitalists – some think blogs are great networking and information sharing tools; others think blogging is too time-consuming and exposes too much sensitive information.
What’s great about this article is that we get to hear big venture capitalists echoing exactly what we’ve been saying about blogs: the blogosphere allows you to (among other things) engage in a conversation with your customers and attract more qualified leads. Fred Wilson of Union Square Ventures said his blog helps him meet more start-ups, particular those that are ‘“more targeted and more relevant” to the areas he’s interested in. Wilson also likes it when his readers argue with him or tell him about companies he might not already know… “You can’t buy that kind of education,” he writes, “and I get it every day for free.”’ There’s an even greater opportunity for small businesses because the Internet places you on a level playing field with your big-name competitors.
So how are these VC blogs doing? We ran a Website Grader SEO Report on some of the blogs mentioned in the article and this is what we found:
