Log this update under "news that should've been news months and months ago." Looks like Google+ is finally rolling out custom vanity URLs for Google+ business pages and personal profiles, as reported by Marketing Land earlier today.
This means that our social media team will soon be able to change this hideous looking URL -- http://plus.google.com/114124401690420551118 -- which leads to HubSpot's Google+ business page, into something much more professional, memorable, and shareable ... like say, this -- http://plus.google.com/+HubSpot. And you'll be able to make a similar change to your own Google+ URL, too! The change will make Google+ pages a heck of a lot easier to promote.
It's about time, right? Especially considering Google+ already had us on our toes when Google+ VP Bradley Horowitz mentioned at Google’s I/O conference in June that custom URLs would be coming soon.
Hold your horses, though. In a Google+ post, Google+ employee Saurabh Sharma said Google+ is rolling out custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages first. Some verified accounts that already have custom URLs include +TOYOTA at google.com/+toyota, +Britney Spears at google.com/+britneyspears, +Ubisoft at google.com/+assassinscreed, and +Delta at google.com/+delta.
Google+ plans to offer custom URLs to more Google+ users over time, but has made no mention of exactly when. However, Sharma confirms that eventually, they will be available to all people and pages worldwide. We'll be sure to keep our eyes and ears open over here and alert you when you can create your own vanity URL, making your Google+ business page URL much more internet-friendly.
Who's ready?!
