Many of us woke up this morning to the shock of a big drop in the RSS subscriber count shown on our blog via FeedBurner. (Admit it, you do track your web stats every day.)
For example, the HubSpot blog (this one) had about 2,400 RSS subscribers yesterday and is currently showing only about 1,529. Another blog I author, OnStartups.com , has about 8,400 subscribers and is currently showing only 5,196 subscribers.
I checked the FeedBurner blog, but there's no discussion of this issue yet.
For those of us that have been on FeedBurner for a while, we are used to
drops in RSS subscriber counts over weekends and holidays (because some number
of people turn their machines off or otherwise don't cause a retrieval of RSS
feed data). But, this kind of drop doesn't make sense (and when it happens, its usually a bug in the FeedBurner software).
In any case, if I were you, I would not worry about this. If it will make you feel better, leave a comment on this article indicating what your subscriber count was yesterday, and what it is today. Misery loves company and there's safety in numbers and all that.
Back to work, nothing to look at here...
Update: As of Feb 22, 2008 @ 9:02 a.m., things are working again. (Likely got fixed in the middle of the night sometime)
