When asked what I do for a living, I never say I'm in marketing. It's not because I don't love this industry -- I do -- but I've gotten one-too-many looks of disgust after dropping the "m-word" as my job description. I can hear the comments now: "I hate marketers! You're the one that creates those Facebook ads for 'magic weight loss pills' and spams my email with useless garbage."
"No, no, no," I say ... but it doesn't matter -- they already have an idea of what "marketers" do.
I'm sure you've gotten similar responses, and frankly, they suck. While we've got some work to do to fix this perception, there are lots of little things we can do to reverse this notion that marketers are bad people -- and what better day to start than on Valentine's Day!
In the spirit of this holiday, we compiled some random acts of marketing kindness -- 26 little things you can do to make someone around you smile. Click through the SlideShare below to see what they are, and try a couple of them out. Pretty soon, you'll see more smiles around you. And maybe, if enough of us do them, we'll start to make our profession a little bit more loveable.
What other little things can you do as a marketer to make other people happy? Share your ideas with us in the comments, and maybe even do one of them today!
