In working on the data for my Science of Blogging webinar tomorrow , one of the most important questions I could ask my data was "when is the best time to publish a blog post?"
Over the past few years, I've researched and written a lot about the best time, and recently, I wrote a big overarching post for ProBlogger on the topic.
Based on over 170,000 blog posts I've created a visualization of the best times and days to post for views, links and comments. Click on the image below to see it full-size.
For more data like this, be sure to register for tomorrow's webinar .

Sad that some people don't have anything better to do on weekends than post comments on blogs. My life seems pretty exciting right now!

Nice graphic... very telling. I'd like to read your ProBlogger article but the link seems broken.
Karen 6:34 PM on December 08, 2010
Yes, link is broken.

Very nice graph. Interesting to know on what times to keep an eye ou for.

Why don't you just tell us - 1,2, 3 - "These are the best times"?
sujit 10:55 PM on December 08, 2010
Good observation; but info-graphic presentation is little bit confusing ..should be quick visualize.thnx

This is an interesting visualization as it helps us see quickly at a glance the trends that emerge when you look at a particular data set (views vs. links vs. comments).
I would also note that it is important to repost several times throughout the day to increase your chances and spread your info.
Lastly, what program did you use to create this visualization?

The drop in reading at the weekend is definitely in line with what I've seen but the huge amount of commenting for a reduced readership is definitely very surprising and something that all bloggers should consider - should be blogging more on the weekend or during the week?

Great topic for thought, but I have to wonder how promoting the blog (e-mail, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) influence the data.
J. Todd Bennett 9:26 AM on December 09, 2010
How is it that people are commenting so heavily on Saturdays without viewing the blog at the same time? Doesn't make sense to me. Am I missing something in the methodology?
AJ 10:41 AM on December 09, 2010
What time zone is this intended to represent?
High Speed HDMI 10:52 AM on December 09, 2010
Really interesting analysis. Thanks for sharing.

Like AJ asked, what is the time zone?
Very interesting though, and great to see it separated by views, links and comments, and especially using so much data! Thanks
Monika 12:03 PM on December 09, 2010
Amazing graph! I have never thought separating the viewing and the commenting part of the blogging! Interesting.
Eddie Kremanis 1:22 PM on December 09, 2010
Very interesting graph.
Same as Monika, I never really tought about separating all three metrics, but it does make sense and ives a good insigth.
Will definately be joining the webinar aswell.
Thanks for sharing.

Post on Friday so they can read it, let them think about it for 24 hours and then they will comment on Saturday - same time of day as when they read it the first time but feel they have the time to comment on Saturday. ????
Question: Does each dark band represent the same number or is each set of date (read, link, comment) "graded on a curve"?
Darren 11:04 AM on December 10, 2010
Really enjoyed yesterday Webinar. Go a lot of takeaways and have implemented several changes already will be interesting to see the results.

Thanks for the graphic insight to when are the optimal times to post a blog. Personally, I think posting more than once a day is still best and if one is going to do more than one a day, then breaking this up in a steady increment is probably better than pushing them all at once in the morning. I think it's good to stagger them out just a little bit so that it gives people time to consume before they are hit with more content.

To what time is this sync'd? Is it specific to North America?
