Mom taught you table manners -- don't talk with your mouth full, keep your elbows off the table, fold your napkin, and so on. But unless your mother is a social media expert, she probably can't help you when it comes to Twitter etiquette.

"Restraint" isn't a word generally associated with social media. You now have an outlet -- several, even -- to broadcast whatever you want to say to the world, whenever you feel like saying it. Posting a selfie with your sandwich? Sure. Recapping your latest gym visit? Okay. Your friends have seen similar things before, and posts such as these are unlikely to cause alarm.

But you might run into problems if you're on Twitter for professional reasons. Suddenly, you could find yourself wishing for a Miss Manners guide.

Wish no more. The following infographic from Melonie Dodaro provides eight rules that well-mannered tweeters adhere to. The next time you're unsure about what you're about to post, refer to this guide for a gut check.
