I think it is important to take note of 4 above "Update your status often." All of these electronic portals get stale pretty quickly and since they are a reflection of you - at that moment - it is important to do a quarterly review/update.

You can do few other things to increase LinkedIn network: 
- Add a link on your blog or website for others to join your network. 
- Add a link in the email signature 
- Try to participate in others discussions 
- Join niche groups and post informative discussions

LinkedIn is such a great tool for the business world. Thank you for your post--I definitely need to start updating my status updates more often! Two of my favorite features of LinkedIn include the job board and the groups which allow you to connect with those having similar interests.
