Our newest INBOUND 2014 speaker, Chris Brogan, took some time out of his busy launch week for his new book, The Freaks Shall Inherit the Earth, to share inside info on how he stays on top of information important to his world. As a bonus, he shares four great folks you should be reading too.
We're delighted to announce that best-selling author Chris Brogan will be speak at HubSpot's INBOUND 2014 conference in September. To celebrate, we're sending a free copy of The Freaks Shall Inherit the Earth to everyone who registers for INBOUND from today until May 9. ($1499 admission is discounted to $799 ending May 31.) We caught up with Chris to ask him about his content consumption habits. In other words: what do you read, and how do you read it?
What is your #1 source for staying on top of your world?
Most of my business comes ultimately from my inbox these days. My media is all built to encourage sign-up to my email newsletter and/or ultimately to take my courses, and that all lives in email.
When and what do you read online?
I let people on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ tell me what's interesting to them and I check out some of that. For myself, I seek out fringe content, like farm news, African tech news, and urban planning speculation reports.
What is your favorite place on the web?
I've been really enjoying Instagram more and more.Which people or feeds or blogs do you follow?
- Calvin Lee @mayhemstudios for entertainment.
- John Jantsch @ducttape for building business relationships.
- James Altucher @jaltucher for learning/professional development.
Who is someone undiscovered that we should be reading?
Kamal Ravikant @kamalravikantWhat is your biggest pet peeve about content?
I'm pretty done with "7 great articles about 5 cool things."What is the most memorable blog of all time?
The best blog out there is James Altucher for pure feeling and guts. It's not immediately translatable to your own business, but everyone should read it for a reminder to be bold and brave in their writing. How would you rank your favorite social apps?
If content types were stocks, which ones would you buy, which would you sell, and which would you hold?
BUY: podcasts, newsletters, video, blog posts. HOLD: infographics, slide desks, ebooks/white papers, books. SELL: (none of these)
What haven't we asked that you'd like to talk about?
What's driving the most value for my business is my newsletter, but I earn that value through the content I create on my blog and my podcast. It's a synergy kind of thing.
Don't miss Chris Brogan, Simon Sinek and a whole roster of incredible speakers coming to Boston September 15-18 for INBOUND 2014. Register by May 9, 2014 and we will also send you a free copy of Chris Brogan's book The Freaks Shall Inherit the Earth.
