Anyone, from bloggers to entrepreneurs to developers, can build a WordPress website — but it takes time and some design expertise to do it from scratch.

To simplify the process, you can use a WordPress theme. A WordPress theme changes the design of your website. The best part is it only requires a few clicks to install, so you don’t need to know any coding to get started.

There are thousands of themes available, which can quickly become overwhelming. To help you make the right choice for your website, we’ll evaluate one of the most popular themes on the market: Monstroid.

Monstroid Child Theme

The Monstroid WordPress theme comes bundled with a child theme. You can choose to install and activate this child theme during the installation process.

Opting for the child theme over the parent theme offers several benefits. First, a child theme is a sub-theme that looks and functions exactly like the parent theme. The advantage is that when you make modifications to the child theme, they are kept separate from the parent theme’s files. This is advantageous for a few reasons.

First, and most importantly, you can update the parent theme without losing your customizations. Without a child theme, you’d have to edit your theme files directly and any time you updated the theme, your customizations would be lost. As a result, you’d be faced with an impossible choice: either don’t keep your theme up to date, which is a huge security risk, or lose your customizations and the time you invested creating them.

Another benefit of keeping your modifications in a separate folder from your theme files is that they’re easy to replicate and move from one site to the next.

Another major benefit of using a child theme is that you can learn about and practice theme development in a low-risk environment. If you begin customizing your child theme and something goes wrong or you aren’t happy with your design, you can just disable the child theme. This will restore the parent theme and your website as it was.

It’s important to note that the team that created Monstroid — ZEMEZ — used to offer child themes separately, for an additional cost. For example, Giglio is a Monstroid child theme specifically designed for restaurants and other businesses in the food industry. However, like any other Monstroid child themes you can find in the TemplateMonster marketplace, it hasn’t been updated since 2016. So installing and activating it on your WordPress website would be a security risk.

Instead, you can install and activate the child theme that comes bundled in the theme package. This saves you the trouble of having to create a child theme yourself.
