Editor's Note: The methods mentioned in this article have been deprecated by Facebook, in favor of Facebook Custom iFrame Landing Pages.
If you are serious about social media marketing, you have probably considered creating extra tabs on your Facebook business page. You know about the business potential they carry—companies use separate Facebook tabs to create landing pages, interactive elements and special offers. But how do you go about doing it?
We recently explored the tab creation path and found a fast and easy way of doing it. Here it is in three steps:
1. Find the FBML Application
Fi
rst, find the Static FBML application on Facebook. This is what you are going to use to plug in the desired HTML code and create your page. Simply click on the Add-to-My-Page option right below the application thumbnail.
After you add it to your page, go to the Facebook home page and click to see your Pages. Scroll down until you see the freshly added Static FBML. Click on Edit FBML and you will see two boxes appear. One is for the title and the second one for the actual HTML.
2. Add HTML to FBML
Enter the HTML code of the page you want to create. You can hyperlink text or embed images. We recommend that you create the page on another software— maybe even your blogging platform—so that you can control the way it looks there. When satisfied with what you see, copy and paste the desired HTML into the FBML box.
3. Review Your New Tab!
Lastly, simply save the changes you have made and go to your Facebook page. You should see the new tab appear next to your other promoted tabs, such as Info and Photos. By clicking on it, you will see the page that you designed. For instance, check out the tab that we created to showcase the success of our customers!
Now that you know how to develop new pages within your Facebook, research some successful engagement tactics and don't forget to share your results with us!

Wow, I have just dived into social marketing and thought I a firm grip on my social marketing direction, but I didn't even realize these options existed. Thanks for the information.

@Mark and @VizFact: Glad you found the post useful! Let us know how you decide to use the Facebook Tab if you create one for your business!
@Karl: Joining all social networks cannot lead to instant sales. They are created for people to build relationships, and that takes time. Be authentic and offer true value to your target audience and you will gradually see positive engagement. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Fiddling with this on our page now - adding a landing page. Getting an error that says my request is being flagged as spam, and I need to turn javascript on...?
Maggie Georgieva 11:19 AM on July 07, 2010
@Jennifer: Did you try to create that on another platform first? If you have a blog, try writing a blog post with the same information and then copy and paste the HTML
Do you have any interactive elements on the page? That might be something that causes problems.

Hi Maggie...thanks for the tips! I've been putting off creating a custom landing page for my FB and it wasn't until I read your post that I finally took action on it...too many distractions. =)
@Karl - not sure if you are referring to the dish network site, but may want to look into adding a xml sitemap and submitting it to search engines like google and yahoo. Don't seem to have any indexed...download seo quake from firefox and check your stats for yourself. Also, work on getting some relevant backlinks. Good luck!

Sometimes the simple posts are the best posts. I have been trying to understand the connection between "static FBML" and new tabs, and so far your tutorial has done the best job of explaining it. Thanks!

After I've added the static FBML I went to my page but can't see the "EDIT FBML"......where is it??
Maggie Georgieva 8:44 AM on July 28, 2010
Ehad, it probably is on the right where the menu expands and you can see all your different tabs. Or it might have taken longer to load.
