As a local business, attracting new customers can be a major challenge. Quickly disappearing are the days when people go to the Yellow Pages to find local businesses. Today, people are turning to the internet as a way to find trusted business recommendations. One way local businesses can get found is through inclusion in online directories. Adding a listing to these online directories is easy, but if you only list in a few, you're really missing a huge opportunity to get found by online searchers.
Every individual directory that you submit to is another chance to get found online, so it's important to make sure you're listed in every directory possible. I have compiled a list of many popular local directories available on the internet. Filling out the forms over and over again can be a big pain, so here's a link to an autofill add-on for Firefox that should help prevent carpal tunnel.

How many of these 50 are localeze.com partners? For the ones that are one submission to Localeze for a measly $300/yr will get you listed w/ a link.

The YellowPages.com link is incorrect. Should be http://www.yp.com
Localeze will distribute your information, but it will most likely be buried by better optimized & paid listings. Follow Tony's advice and claim your free listings online in as many places as you can.

Rod Brady 6:04 PM on March 07, 2011
The YellowAssistance link is incorrect. It should be http://yellowassistance.com.
Jimmy 6:05 PM on March 07, 2011

Got a bit fed up of keep hitting US only sites. I think there were only a couple that worked for me then I gave up it would be useful if when you post lists such as these if you could separate out the US only sites

Someone mentioned Locandex. You can claim and manage your listing for free there - localndex.com/claim. Thanks for providing a great resource for businesses, Hubspot!

Infinite Listings UK Business Directory 6:39 AM on March 08, 2011
Great list, an have to agree with other commenters regards the US-centric leaning! Smaller - more "local" - sites spring up all over often covering tighter geographical areas in other countries.
Abdul Malick 8:23 AM on March 08, 2011
Great List. Its very useful for our business visibility. Shall we use this listing for geotarget purpose?

I have worked with local search for about four years now, and have experience with many of these sites. I know the ins and outs of the local search world, so to speak. If you are interested in making sure your information is listed correctly on these sites, send me an email. I can help your organization ensure all of your listings are correct and where they need to be online.

RelyLocal.com is an up and coming local directory that should be on this list.
Karen Kefauver 2:06 PM on March 12, 2011
Two questions:
1. I work at home (and use a PO Box) does a list exist or can you make one that is not reliant on listing a physical address?
2. Is this free?

Most of the time, you are able to omit your address and place a phone number and name only on these sites. It is free to claim your listings on the sites, however, you will most likely start to field sales calls from each site to purchase upgraded listings.

Post your business on http://aol.it/PatchSite. Not every city has their own Patch site, but it's free to list your business. They promote themselves as "...your source for local knowledge you can't live without."

I work at home - don't want a biz directory that points to my home with a published map - nor even to my PO box location. Anyone have a directory list that is good for folks like me -and there are many of us!
Ed Fowlkes Jr 3:03 PM on April 02, 2011
Thanks for this list. This is one of the first things I do for my clients. I didn't have a few of these directories though so I just added them to my list. Thanks!
