If you want to make your email marketing efforts as successful as possible, installing a WordPress email marketing plugin is a great decision.

You can find plugins that let you manage every single aspect without leaving your WordPress dashboard, including sending emails. Or, if you’re already using a SaaS email marketing tool like Mailchimp or MailerLite, you can find some great plugins to help you grow your subscriber lists more effectively.

Streamline Your WordPress Site Launch with Our Free Guide + Checklist

In this post, I used my 10+ years of WordPress experience and hands-on testing to curate nine of the top WordPress email marketing plugins out there. For each plugin, I’ll highlight what I like and help you understand how it can improve your email marketing efforts.

Table of Contents

What is an email marketing plugin?

An email marketing plugin is a WordPress plugin that helps you more effectively implement your email marketing campaigns on WordPress. Given that 77% of marketers have seen an increase in email engagement over the past year, using a WordPress email marketing plugin is a great way to ensure that your site is reaping the benefits of email marketing.

In general, email marketing plugins come with two main approaches, so you’ll want to make sure you choose the approach that works best for your situation.

Some email marketing plugins offer an all-in-one approach that makes them a complete alternative to SaaS (software as a service) email marketing services like Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and MailerLite.

These plugins give you tools to create email opt-in forms, manage subscribers, and send emails to subscribers — all without leaving your WordPress dashboard. If you don’t want to deal with a separate email marketing service, choosing one of these plugins can be a great option.

The other type of email marketing plugin is more focused on helping you generate more email subscribers for your existing email marketing service (such as HubSpot, MailerLite, Mailchimp, and others). For example, the plugin might help you create inline forms and pop-ups that sync new subscribers to your existing email marketing service.

If you’re already using an email marketing service but you’re looking for more effective ways to grow your lists, choosing one of these plugins could be the right decision.

I will include both types of plugins in this list, but I’ll make it very clear which approach each plugin uses.

1. MailPoet

WordPress email marketing plugins, the MailPoet plugin WordPress.org listing

MailPoet is a popular WordPress email marketing plugin that was acquired by Automattic/WooCommerce, one of the largest WordPress companies.

What I like about this plugin is that it offers a 100% native WordPress email marketing solution. Without ever leaving your WordPress dashboard, you can create email opt-in forms, manage your subscribers, and send one-off or automated emails using a visual, drag-and-drop builder.

However, unlike a lot of other WordPress email marketing plugins, MailPoet also includes its own built-in email-sending service (a good thing!). This means that you can be confident that your emails will make it to your subscribers’ inboxes without needing to set up a third-party SMTP/email sending service.

I think this fact makes MailPoet especially good for non-technical users, as setting up a separate email-sending service may be overly complex.

You can use MailPoet for any type of website, including blogs. However, if you have a WooCommerce store, MailPoet includes some special WooCommerce-specific email automations and analytics, such as being able to attribute revenue/orders to specific emails that you’ve sent.

What I like:

  • MailPoet is a 100% native WordPress plugin, which means you can do everything without leaving your WordPress dashboard.
  • In addition to letting you send one-off emails, MailPoet also includes a lot of helpful marketing automation triggers. If you have a WooCommerce store, you can also take advantage of WooCommerce-specific automations like abandoned cart emails.
  • MailPoet includes its own built-in email-sending service, which my experience has shown me to be rare in fully native WordPress email marketing plugins.
  • All of MailPoet’s paid plans offer unlimited email sending.
  • There’s a forever-free plan that can work fine for smaller sites.

Pricing: MailPoet has a forever-free plan that gives you access to core features and lets you send up to 5,000 emails per month to up to 1,000 subscribers.

All of the paid plans support unlimited email sending and are primarily billed based on the number of subscribers you have. Paid plans start at $10 per month for up to 500 subscribers and include more advanced email marketing features in addition to unlimited email sending.

2. HubSpot WordPress PluginWordPress email marketing plugins, the HubSpot plugin WordPress.org listing

HubSpot is a popular customer relationship manager (CRM) that also includes flexible email marketing tools, along with advanced email automation.

With the HubSpot WordPress plugin, you can easily integrate HubSpot into your site. You’ll be able to create email opt-in forms and pop-ups, while also easily opening HubSpot’s email builder via convenient links in your WordPress dashboard.

WordPress email marketing plugins, the HubSpot email editor

Overall, I think that HubSpot can be a great option if you’re looking for a full-service CRM to go alongside your email marketing efforts. However, if you just want an easy way to send emails to a list of subscribers without needing any CRM functionality, you might be fine with a different WordPress email marketing plugin.

What I like:

  • HubSpot’s CRM functionality is more advanced than all of the other email marketing plugins on this list.
  • While HubSpot is technically a standalone software tool, the HubSpot WordPress plugin allows you to access key features right from your WordPress site.
  • HubSpot lets you set up more complex types of email marketing automation, which I think can be a great option for advanced users looking to get the most from their email marketing efforts.
  • You can design emails and list-building forms using visual editors, which is great for non-technical users.
  • HubSpot includes its own built-in email-sending service, so you can be confident that your emails will make it to your subscribers’ inboxes without setting up a third-party service.
  • HubSpot has a generous free plan and the HubSpot CRM and WordPress plugin are both free.

Pricing: The HubSpot CRM and HubSpot WordPress plugin are both available for free, and you’ll be able to send a certain number of emails per month on the free tier. To increase your monthly email sending limits and access other more advanced email marketing features, HubSpot’s Marketing Hub plans start at $20 per month.

3. Newsletter

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Newsletter plugin WordPress.org listing

Newsletter is another popular native WordPress email marketing plugin that functions similarly to the MailPoet plugin above.

Without ever leaving your WordPress dashboard, you can create email opt-in forms, manage your subscriber lists, and send users emails that you design with a visual builder.

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Newsletter plugin email editor

However, I think that you should be aware of one notable downside with this plugin — it does not include its own email-sending service like MailPoet. Instead, you’ll need to connect it to a separate email-sending service like Amazon SES, SendGrid, or Mailgun (which the plugin can help you do).

While this isn’t too technical, I think that non-technical users might be happier with plugins like MailPoet or HubSpot because they include a built-in sending service.

What I like:

  • You can manage 100% of your email marketing efforts without leaving your WordPress dashboard.
  • The free version of the plugin works fine if you’re happy to manually send each email blast, which I think is great for people on a tight budget.
  • You can design your emails using a visual builder — no HTML needed.
  • Newsletter uses a modular, add-on-based approach. I like this because it means you can keep things simple by only activating the specific features that you need.

Pricing: Newsletter has a free version at WordPress.org that lets you send unlimited emails to unlimited subscribers. However, the free version does not support any type of automated email.

To set up autoresponders and access other more advanced features like a WooCommerce integration, the premium version starts at $99 for access to all 35+ premium add-ons.

Depending on how many emails you send, you also might need to pay for your email-sending service. This is usually pretty cheap, though. For example, Amazon SES charges $0.10 per 1,000 emails. That means you could send 50,000 emails per month for just $5.

4. Mailster

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Mailster homepage

Mailster is another full-service email marketing plugin that lets you manage every single aspect of your email marketing efforts from WordPress.

From your WordPress dashboard, you can create email opt-in forms, manage your subscribers, and send them one-off or automated emails using a visual builder.

I think that it has one of the nicer visual builders out there, which can make it a good option if you plan to create more styled and intricate email designs.

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Mailster visual email builder

However, like the Newsletter plugin above, Mailster does not offer its own email-sending service. This means that you’ll need to set it up to use a third-party sending service like Amazon SES, SendGrid, Mailgun, or others. However, Mailster includes built-in features to help you do this.

I think that one of the potential advantages of Mailster over other options is that it offers a lifetime license option. This can make it very affordable over the long run. However, there’s no free version of the plugin, so I would not recommend it to people looking for a free WordPress email marketing plugin.

What I like:

  • You can manage all of your email marketing tasks without ever needing to leave your WordPress dashboard.
  • There’s a lifetime license option, which makes it affordable for long-term usage.
  • You can design emails using a drag-and-drop editor.
  • Mailster also includes more than 400 pre-made email designs, which I think is great for people who don’t want to design everything from scratch.
  • Mailster supports sending both manual and automated emails, including multi-step automation sequences.

Pricing: Mailster only comes in a premium version. You can purchase a yearly license via the developer’s website, starting at $79 for use on a single site and one year of support/updates.

Or, you can purchase a lifetime license via the CodeCanyon marketplace. That will cost you $119, but it gives you lifetime updates and six months of support.

If you think that you’ll be using the plugin for more than two years, I think that it makes sense to purchase the lifetime license via CodeCanyon. While it has a higher upfront cost, you’ll save money in the long run.

Beyond the Mailster plugin itself, you also might need to pay for your email-sending service. This will depend on your actual usage and which email-sending service you choose.

5. Convert Pro

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Convert Pro homepage

Convert Pro is an email marketing plugin that helps you attract more email subscribers using various types of pop-ups, along with inline forms.

You can use its visual builder to design modal pop-ups, slide-ins, notification bars, inline forms, widgets, convert mats, and full-screen pop-ups/fillers. Then, you can automatically sync the subscribers that your forms generate to your favorite email marketing services.

The visual email builder is easy to use and you also get lots of pre-made form templates for all the different styles.

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Convert Pro visual builder

I want to make it clear that Convert Pro does not include its own functionality to actually send emails to people. Rather, it just helps you attract more email subscribers to whatever email marketing service you’re using.

However, it does support 39+ different email marketing services, so you should have no problem connecting it. That also includes some of the full-service email marketing plugins on this list, such as Mailster and MailPoet. If you can’t find a dedicated integration, Convert Pro also lets you connect to other services via Zapier.

What I like:

  • You can design your email subscription forms using a visual drag-and-drop builder.
  • Convert Pro integrates with 39+ different email marketing tools, including HubSpot. This lets you choose your preferred integration. If you can’t find a dedicated integration, it also works with Zapier to help you connect to additional services.
  • You get access to tons of targeting and trigger rules (including exit intent) to ensure that your site displays the forms to the right people at the right time.
  • You can use A/B testing to optimize your forms.
  • While there’s no free version of the plugin, Convert Pro still offers excellent value because it supports use on unlimited sites and there’s a lifetime payment option.

Pricing: Convert Pro does not have a free version. You can purchase it for $99 for a one-year license or $387 for a lifetime license. Both licenses allow use on unlimited sites.

6. NotifyVisitors

NotifyVisitors is an intuitive WordPress email plugin that provides an easy-to-use and intuitive email builder. It lets you create personalized email campaigns and accurately track email performance.

NotifyVisitors uses an AI-driven email personalization engine that enables you to tailor messages according to the interests of your target customers based on their behavior on the site.

Moreover, NotifyVisitors integrates with third-party services, making implementation seamless.

notifyvisitors

What I like:

  • NotifyVisitors helps send automated campaigns to a wide range of audiences. Moreover, you can automate customers' journeys throughout the funnel.
  • Using its drag-and-drop editor, you can customize the email campaigns based on any data you have collected about your customers.
  • Add custom fields to gather contact information that is important to you.
  • Segment customers based on their behavior on your site and other channels.
  • NotifyVisitors interface helps you track the performance of every campaign on a single dashboard. You can keep tabs on different metrics such as email opens, email clicks, bounce rate and so on.
  • Use the real-time data to analyze the campaign and automation impact from repeat customers.

Pricing: NotifyVisitors has a three-tier pricing model including a free plan that includes up to 1000 contacts, and up to 1000 email sends. All of their plans offer professional-looking email templates, pre-built automation and workflows, popup and signup forms, segmentation and customer analytics, A/B testing, and more.

The premium plans begin to offer new features including automated reports and data exports, advanced customer reporting, customer success manager, and 24/7 priority support.

7. OptinMonster

WordPress email marketing plugins, the OptinMonster plugin WordPress.org listing

Like Convert Pro, OptinMonster is not an all-in-one email marketing plugin. Instead, it’s a tool designed to help you more effectively grow your email subscriber lists.

It offers a range of different pop-ups and form types that you can use to capture people’s email addresses. Then, it can automatically sync those new subscribers to whichever email marketing service you choose. It has a very detailed integration list, with support for HubSpot, Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, ConvertKit, and lots more (including Zapier).

WordPress email marketing plugins, an explanation of the OptinMonster builder interface

In my opinion, where OptinMonster really excels is in its advanced targeting and trigger rules. These rules let you make sure you’re showing your email subscribe forms to the right people and at an optimal time. In other words, they let you implement very advanced personalization strategies.

I think that you should only choose OptinMonster if you’re planning to take advantage of these advanced targeting and trigger rules. If you just want to create some basic pop-ups, I think you can save a lot of money by choosing a different tool on this list.

What I like:

  • OptinMonster has very advanced targeting and trigger rules. If you take advantage of these rules, I think that they give you more opportunities for personalization and optimization than most other plugins.
  • You can manage your lead generation efforts for multiple sites from a single cloud dashboard.
  • OptinMonster integrates with most popular email marketing services. It also has a Zapier integration and supports webhooks for custom integrations.
  • You can design your pop-ups and forms using a visual builder, along with lots of pre-made templates.
  • OptinMonster has a very tight integration with WooCommerce (and Shopify), which I think can make it especially good value for online stores.

Pricing: OptinMonster only comes in a premium version and it uses paid recurring billing. It’s more expensive than pretty much every other WordPress list-building plugin, which is why I believe that it only makes sense to use OptinMonster if you’re planning to take advantage of its advanced targeting/trigger rules.

Plans start at $16 per month for up to 2,500 page views and basic features and go up to $99 per month for 100,000 page views and all features.

8. Hustle

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Hustle plugin WordPress.org listing

Hustle is another popular plugin that can help you grow your email subscriber lists with in-line forms, pop-ups, notification bars, and more. You can then easily sync subscribers to your email marketing service using dedicated integrations or a Zapier connection.

In terms of free functionality, I think it has one of the most generous free versions out there when it comes to the advanced targeting and trigger rules that you get access to for free. So, if you’re looking to grow your email lists on a budget, this is a great one to consider.

While Hustle doesn’t offer a visual drag-and-drop builder like some other tools, I think that the builder is still pretty intuitive. You choose a template as your starting point and then customize it using an interface that looks like this:

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Hustle template editor doesn't give you drag-and-drop control

You can quickly preview what your actual content will look like by clicking the Preview button.

However, if you do want a visual builder, I would recommend choosing Convert Pro or OptinMonster instead. Those plugins definitely give you more design control than what Hustle offers.

What I like:

  • You can build various types of email opt-in pop-ups, as well as inline forms.
  • You get access to all of the plugin’s functionality in the free version. Instead of limiting the free version by features, Hustle’s free version limits you to three different campaigns for each form type.
  • While Hustle doesn’t offer a visual, drag-and-drop builder, the interface makes it easy to customize the pre-made templates.
  • You can access a variety of targeting and trigger rules to control when to display pop-ups, including exit intent.
  • You can integrate your email opt-in forms with a bunch of different email marketing services including HubSpot, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Brevo, and more. There’s also a catch-all Zapier integration.

Pricing: Hustle has a free version at WordPress.org that’s pretty generous with its functionality. The main limitation is that you can only create a limited number of pop-ups and embeds with the free version (three each for the different form types).

To access the ability to create unlimited campaigns, Hustle Pro starts at $7.50 per month.

9. Creative Mail

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Creative Mail plugin WordPress.org listing

Creative Mail is another popular email marketing plugin that offers an all-in-one approach. You can create email opt-in forms, manage your subscribers, and send them one-off or automated emails using a simple editor.

If you have a WooCommerce store, Creative Mail also offers a special integration to help you send WooCommerce-specific emails. And, like the MailPoet plugin above, Creative Mail also includes its own built-in email-sending service to make sure your emails make it to subscribers’ inboxes.

I think that last feature is especially important because it means you don’t need to mess around with third-party SMTP services just to have your emails sent reliably.

You can get started with a simple onboarding wizard. Then, you’ll manage all of your efforts from the Creative Mail website. Even though it’s exclusively a WordPress tool, Creative Mail still has you work from a dashboard that’s hosted on the Creative Mail website (though you get links to important tools in your WordPress dashboard).

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Creative Mail visual email editor

If you want something that’s entirely self-contained within WordPress, I recommend choosing a different plugin like MailPoet, Newsletter, or Mailster.

What I like:

  • Creative Mail is a full-service WordPress email marketing tool.
  • If you have multiple WordPress sites, you might prefer that you’re able to manage all of them from the same Creative Mail dashboard.
  • You don’t need to set up a third-party email-sending service because Creative Mail includes its own built-in email-sending functionality.
  • There’s a forever-free plan that lets you send up to 5,000 emails per month, which might be enough for smaller sites.
  • Creative Mail is owned by a very established company (Newfold Digital). This is the same company behind Yoast SEO, Bluehost, Constant Contact, and lots of other big brands.

Pricing: The Creative Mail plugin is available for free at WordPress.org. However, you might need to pay for the underlying Creative Mail service depending on your usage and feature needs.

To start, there’s a forever-free plan that offers basic features and lets you send up to 5,000 emails per month.

If you want access to more features and higher sending limits, there are two paid plans — Awesome starting at $4.95 per month and Ultimate starting at $10.95 per month. The price for each plan will go up based on the number of contacts you have.

10. Icegram Express, et al.

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Icegram Express plugin WordPress.org listing

Finally, I want to share Icegram Express, another popular email marketing plugin that’s available at WordPress.org.

What I like about Icegram is that it’s actually three separate plugins, which lets you choose the approach that works best for your email marketing efforts:

  • Icegram Express — This is an all-in-one email marketing plugin that can help you create simple subscription forms and then send users newsletters right from your WordPress dashboard. It also includes a free email-sending service (though the free service caps out at 100 emails per day).
  • Icegram Engage — This is an opt-in and lead generation plugin that lets you create various types of pop-ups and opt-in forms to grow your list.
  • Icegram Collect — This is another lead generation tool. But where Engage is mostly focused on pop-ups, Collect is more focused on traditional web forms, such as contact forms and lead generation forms.

You can use all three plugins together for a complete email marketing solution. Or, if you’re already using an email marketing service like Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor, you could just use Icegram Engage and Icegram Collect to grow your email lists and sync your subscribers.

Here’s what the Icegram Express email editor looks like:

WordPress email marketing plugins, the Icegram visual email builder

What I like:

  • You can choose your preferred approach, whether that’s a full-service email marketing tool or just opt-in forms and pop-ups that connect to your separate email marketing service.
  • If you use Icegram Express, you’ll be able to manage all of your email marketing efforts without leaving your WordPress dashboard.
  • You can send one-off emails or set up autoresponders or other email automation sequences (including automatically sending emails when you publish new blog posts).
  • Even with the free version, Icegram doesn’t include its own branding in your emails. I’ve found that many other services add a “Powered by [plugin name]” note to content created with their free plans. Icegram doesn’t do that.

Pricing: You can find free versions of all three Icegram plugins at WordPress.org.

If you want access to the premium functionality, there’s an entry-level Pro plan that costs $129 per year or a full-featured Max plan that costs $229 per year.

You also still might need a third-party email delivery tool. Icegram includes its own free email-sending service for up to 100 emails per day. Above that, you’ll need to set up your own email-sending service.

The Max plan lets you use Amazon SES, which I think would be the cheapest option for sites with high-volume sending. You can also use other services like Mailgun and SendGrid, or even a custom SMTP server.

Try these WordPress email marketing plugins today.

That wraps up my picks for the best email marketing plugins that you can use on your WordPress site. Choosing the right plugin for your site will depend on whether you’re looking for a full-service email marketing solution or you’re just looking for a tool to help you grow your subscribers and sync them to a standalone email marketing service.

If you want an all-in-one WordPress solution, I think you should start by considering MailPoet because of its built-in email-sending service. Or, if you want a list-building tool to connect to HubSpot or other email marketing services, start by looking at Convert Pro if you’re willing to pay or Hustle if you’re looking for a free solution.
