What did I learn this weekend? First, I learned that even Tom Brady can't throw a football accurately with linebackers in his face. Second, Tom Petty might be a bit old to be trying to rock out during halftime. And finally, yes, I learned that inbound links, website grade, web traffic and other Internet marketing metrics do not affect what happens on a football field. To be honest, I think my prediction last week was clear that it was somewhat in jest. But still, I make a full apology to our blog readers for going perhaps a bit too far last week when I predicted a Patriots victory using Internet marketing data. I will now eat my Humble Pie just like the Patriots should be doing.
But, that does not mean that all of you reading this article are off the hook! Why? Because all these metrics do matter! Internet marketing metrics matter for your business. While predicting the result of a football game might not make sense, I do think you can predict the future of your business using things like traffic, inbound links and website grade. More people visiting your website indicates more interest in your business. A higher Website Grade comes from you doing all the right things online, which helps more people find your website.
So, I will eat my humble pie. But, your assignment is to get a free marketing report at Website Grader and add to your goals for 2008 to improve your Website Grade, double your website traffic and double your website lead flow.

Thanks Mike - I feel like I just had the half-time pep talk from the coach! Go Team! E-Team that is!
Enjoy your pie but don't be to hard on yourself! :-) Now back to my internet game plan.

Hi Mike,
Sorry to hear your Patriots lost. But being a west coast guy, it was a bit of a boring event. :-)
It's good to see that they have been able to make it to the Superbowl after the years (long ago) of clinching the last place in their division.
Cheers,
E.

The good news is that we're just weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training!

How about some super Tuesday predictions? Or is it a case of once bitten....

Or perhaps the Superbowl thing proved that you want less visits so that you can sneak up on your oversized competition and crush them when it matters most?!?!

Your free marketing report is great, and it is being improved all the time with new metrics. Please consider reporting the date of the most recent post on the blog you find. I used your report, followed the blog link and found that the last post was around October 2007, so it is not an active blog, and the robots will certainly pick this up.
Your tool also seems to stop looking after finding one blog on a page. Is this intentional?
Thanks for a super site.

@jeff - thanks! The idea of adding the date is a good one. I will see what we can do. Yes, we stop after one blog. We would love to try to capture multiple blogs and rate them all, but pretty soon we're building a search enigne that indexes lots of content on the web and that gets expensive fast...
