As a salesperson, your job is to bring in money for your employer. Wouldn't it be nice if you made a tidy sum for yourself in the process?
Job review site Glassdoor recently released its list of the highest-paying cities for sales jobs. If you're looking to earn a bit more cash for your customer hunting and farming expertise, a move to one of the locales below might be in your best interest.
Here are the 10 cities where sales reps rake in the most moolah, along with the average total pay (base salary plus commission):
- San Jose, CA - $127,500
- San Francisco, CA - $100,000
- Boston, MA - $98,000
- New York City, NY - $97,236
- Los Angeles, CA and Washington, DC - $90,000
- Houston, TX - $85,500
- Bridgeport, CT and Boulder, CO - $85,000
- Dallas-Fort Worth, TX, Seattle, WA, and Raleigh-Durham, NC - $84,000
- Atlanta, GA - $82,500
- Sacramento, CA, and Hartford, CT - $82,000
Ready to pack up your U-Haul? Whoa there. The breakdown between base pay and commission might be the determining factor of where you lay down roots.
For instance, if you're a rep who likes the comfort of a steady base income, Houston -- where average commission comp is 29% of total salary -- will be your best bet. If, on the other hand, you'd like to maximize your variable pay, check out Boulder, Los Angeles, DC, or Sacramento, where commission forms a larger chunk of your check.
